The Winchester Regional Airport Authority and Handley Regional Library System announced a partnership for a new program, “Story Time at the Airport”. The initial event is scheduled for Friday, January 13th at 10:30 a.m. at the main terminal located at 491 Airport Road, Winchester, VA 22602. Ben Garrand, Youth Services Assistant at Bowman Library, will be presenting the story time sessions.
“Story Time at the Airport fits nicely with the airport’s desire to connect with the community in new and meaningful ways,” said Winchester Regional Airport Authority Chairman Bill Pifer. “It unites two institutional anchors in our community to spark an interest in aviation through a fun visit to the airport, some for the very first time,” he added. According to Executive Director Nick Sabo, successful programs at airports across the country served as the inspiration and model for this collaboration. Handley Library Youth Services Division Head Donna Hughes said, “We were thrilled to be approached about the idea. The new venue will capture the imagination of our youth and give us an opportunity to inform area residents about the resources available through our robust system of libraries.”
Both organizations will publish a calendar of story time events on their respective websites. The monthly program will be held during the week with weekend dates a future possibility. “We see this as just the start of a wonderful relationship,” said Nick Sabo.
