This course is designed to provide the foundational education and training for entry-level personnel wanting to become certified as a Firefighter. Completion of Basic Fire Academy #23 will provide individuals with certifications in Firefighter Level I, Firefighter Level II, Hazardous Materials First Responder: Awareness and Operations, and Firefighter Rescue and Survival. All class sessions are broken down into either four (4) hour blocks or eight (8) hour blocks on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays based upon the Virginia Department of Fire Programs Course Schedule. At the end of the Certification Courses, a written examination and practical examination will be administered by the Virginia Department of Fire Programs for certification purposes.
The Frederick County Fire and Rescue Department / System now requires all students enrolled in the Basic Fire Academy to successfully complete a National Fire Protection Association (N.F.P.A.) 1582 Physical Examination (similar to Basic Fire Academy #22). Individuals interested in this Course need to register through the registration system prior to the closing date of August 9, 2024. Once students are registered for the Course, Training Division Staff will e-mail you a physical examination packet. If the individual is part of the Frederick County Fire and Rescue System, you will need to schedule your physical examination date and time through Operations Division Senior Secretary Laurie A. Bowers. Frederick County Fire and Rescue System Personnel physical examinations will be paid for by Frederick County. All Out-Of-County Personnel physical examination costs are the responsibility of their respective Department or the individual.
Once the individual has successfully passed the physical examination, you will need to register through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs Cornerstone OnDemand Learning Management System. Students are required to have a complete set of Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) furnished by their Fire and Rescue Station during the entire Course. One hundred percent (100%) attendance is required for this Course and exceptions will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
