This course is designed to provide the foundational education and training for certified Emergency Medical Technicians (E.M.T.s) wanting to become certified as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (A.E.M.T.). Completion of Advanced Emergency Medical Services Academy #3 will provide individuals with certifications in Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and a couple of other ancillary courses. All class sessions are broken down into either four (4) hour blocks or eight (8) hour blocks on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays based upon the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services Course Schedule. At the end of the Certification Course, a computer-adaptive examination will be administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians through a Pearson VUE Testing Site for certification purposes.
Personnel interested in registering for the Advanced Emergency Medical Services Academy must successfully complete a Pre-Test that is comprised of multiple-choice questions from the Emergency Medical Technician Course as defined by the National Emergency Medical Services (E.M.S.) Education Standards. The Pre-Test will be offered on three (3) different dates and times (August 27th at 0900 and 1900 hours, and August 28th at 0900 hours), and registration for the Pre-Test is limited to the first fifty (50) candidates. All the Pre-Tests will be graded, and a list will be compiled indicating the results that will be reviewed by Training Division Staff and the Emergency Medical Services (E.M.S.) Advisory Committee. The top twenty-four (24) candidates will be given the first offer of admission to the Course with priority given to employees and volunteer personnel supporting the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Department / System, Winchester Fire and Rescue Department, other personnel in the Lord Fairfax E.M.S. Council Region, and then out-of-area, out-of-state, and resident alien students.
