Zoning Guidelines

• Properties are zoned for different uses. A specific business use of your property may be disallowed in Frederick County's zoning ordinances.

• Zoning approval is the first requirement for obtaining a Frederick County business license.  Businesses who subsequently change location must submit a new Zoning Review form for approval.

• Zoning review and approval is handled by the County's Department of Planning & Development rather than the office of the Commissioner of the Revenue.

• Frederick County home-based businesses are not permitted to have, among other things, additional employees, customer parking or reception, signage, outdoor storage, or more than one business vehicle on the property.

• Businesses must also comply with additional County requirements such as the filing of an approved commercial site plan for commercial and industrial zoning districts.
