- A servicemember's vehicle may be exempt from local taxation in any State other than your State of legal residence if:
- servicemember is on full-time active duty in the military service absent from his/her state of residence or domicile
- motor vehicle is:
- normally garaged, stored, or parked in the County
- registered in Virginia or any other jurisdiction
- required documentation is provided (see form below).
- Under the Military Spouses Residency Relief Act (PL 111-97), a qualifying spouse can also qualify for vehicle exemption (whether the vehicle is co-owned with the servicemember or owned individually by the spouse) if spouse:
- shares domicile with an exempt military servicemember,
- resides in the County in order to live with the servicemember, and
- documentation is provided (see form below).
