Health Insurance
Frederick County offers full-time employees the opportunity to enroll in one of two group medical insurance plans. The employee may choose to purchase spouse, child, or family coverage. Please Note: A new employee’s coverage starts at the first day of the month following the employee’s hire date. (Ex: If the employee is hired at any point in January, he/she would be covered February 1.)
Consolidated Appropriations Act Requirements: Transparency in Coverage regulations require our health plan provider, Anthem, to publish their in-network negotiated rates and out-of-network allowed amounts in the form of machine-readable files (MRF) made available on a public website. The regulations, part of the 2021 Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA). To access this information, please take the following steps:

Your Rights and Protections Against Surprise Medical Bills:
When you get emergency care or are treated by an out-of-network provider at an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center, you are protected from balance billing. In these cases, you should not be charged more than your plan’s copayments, coinsurance and/or deductible.

Dental
Frederick County offers a basic dental plan to full-time employees. The plan provides 100% coverage for preventive care, which includes cleanings and x-rays. Basic treatments, such as filling and extraction, are covered at 80% after a $50 deductible. Please Note: Dental insurances are effective the 1st day of the month following 30 days from date of hire.
Retirement
All full-time employees participate in and are governed by the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).
Life Insurance
All full-time employees are provided group term life insurance, accidental death, and dismemberment insurance through VRS.
Optional Insurance
Employees may choose to purchase additional insurance coverage on themselves and family members. Frederick County offers supplemental benefits to include life, cancer, accident, and critical illness insurance.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Frederick County offers full-time employees the opportunity to enroll in flexible spending accounts to pay for dependent care and qualified medical expenses.
Deferred Compensation Plan
All full-time employees may participate in our Deferred Compensation Plan. The plan allows the employee to defer a portion of salary which will not be subject to current federal or state income taxes. The deferred amount is invested with firms under contract with Frederick County and is not available for withdrawal until retirement or termination.
Employee Assistance Program
To help employees and their family members with personal problems, Frederick County has available an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). This program provides up to three free treatment visits in a twelve-month period to employees and their family members living in their household. The EAP also provides a 24-hour confidential counseling intervention service for employees experiencing such problems as alcohol and drug related problems, marital conflicts, family problems, emotional difficulties, legal problems, and financial concerns.
