Home MenuChristmas Wrap-Up: Keep It Merry and Green!
Keep the holidays green by recycling wrapping paper, electronics, cardboard, shoes, clothing, and even trees.
Wrapping Paper
Recycle old holiday wrap in the red containers along with your newspaper, magazines and office paper. Wrap should be free of excessive tape, ribbon, cardboard and plastic. No foil, please! Wrapping paper and shopping bags account for four million tons of trash each year in the U.S.!
TreeCycle
Cut trees will be accepted for recycling at all convenience sites (except Greenwood Road) from December 26 through the end of January each year. Trees must be free of decorations, lights, tinsel and stands. Greenery accepted. Please remove all wire. Trees accepted anytime at the landfill's citizens' center.
Cardboard
Please FLATTEN and recycle all cardboard. Receptacles available at the landfill and all convenience centers.
Glass
Recycling for glass bottles and jars is available at the landfill's citizens' center only. Please ensure that glass containers are empty, rinsed clean and free of all metal caps, lids and corks. No cartons, bags or other trash inside the container, please. Baking dishes, drinking glasses, vases and plate glass are prohibited.
Electronics
Recycle old electronics, including holiday lights and extension cords, at eCycle. First event of the new year will be held on the fourth Wednesday of January from 7 to 11 a.m. at the landfill's citizens' center. Fees apply for screens and battery back-ups. Please review COVID-19 precautions posted our our website.
Shoes and Clothing
Look for Save-a-Sole and ReThreads containers at your convenience site or the regional landfill. Frederick County accepts shoes in any condition, back packs, luggage and gently-worn textiles for recycling. Remember these recycling opportunities when cleaning out your closet to make room for holiday gifts. All textiles must be dry and bagged. Shoes also collected at Total Image on Boscawen Street and the Frederick County Animal Shelter's front lobby.
