Home MenuRegulations for Posting Structure Number
In order for 911 Emergency Response crews to find a structure quickly and effectively, it is necessary for the assigned number to be clearly displayed on the front of the structure. The following are specific requirements for posting of structure address numbers:
- If the structure is more than 50’ away from the road front, then the structure number must also be displayed at the entrance of the driveway, either on the corresponding mailbox or on a separate sign.
- They must be of a contrasting color from their immediate background.
- The font of the numbers shall not be in script, written, or worded format.
- They must be clearly visible from the accessing road.
- Residential structures must post numbers of at least 4-inches in height.
- Commercial structures must post numbers of at least 8-inches in height over the main entrance to the structure. Not other wording or numbering may be placed within 2 feet of the address.
The main idea to keep in mind is that the easier it is to identify a structure based on the address, the easier and quicker it will be for 911 Emergency Services to assist in emergencies.
