The post is open for membership to males and females between the ages of 14 and 21. Members participate in a variety of activities. Some are related to law enforcement and others are not. Law enforcement activities include training for vehicle traffic stops, officer safety, basic law, handling domestic violence situations, search and seizure law and techniques, drunk driving arrests, basic arrest techniques and firearms safety, training and shooting.
Non law enforcement activities include such things as pizza and movie nights, attendance at special activities or events in the community.
In January of every year Gatlinburg, Tennessee hosts their "Winterfest" activities. It is a weekend of competitions, contests, dances and fun. Law Enforcement and Fire and Rescue posts from all over the southeastern United States participate in this event. We also try to have one "summer trip" which may be a camping trip, a visit to an amusement park or some other place the members decide they would like to go.
The Post meets every other Tuesday at the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, 1080 Coverstone Drive in Winchester. The meetings start at 7:00 pm and are over promptly at 9:00 pm. The sheriff provides two deputies in support of the Post. We also have three volunteer advisors. Adult participation is encouraged. All funds to support the post are raised by the members. They include parking during Apple Blossom weekend; bake sales and hamburger and hot dogs stands at various functions in the area.
If you would like to join please fill out the Boy Scouts of America application, and return to the Sheriff's Office. Application may be emailed to fcso@fcva.us
